Aetna limits TMS coverage to patients diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. TBI alone does not qualify unless accompanied by clinical depression.
Magellan covers TMS treatment for depression only. Patients with TBI may still qualify if they also meet criteria for depression.
Medicare does not approve TMS treatment for TBI or concussion by themselves. Coverage is limited to patients with Major Depressive Disorder.
Although research supports TMS use for brain injury symptoms, Blue Cross covers TMS treatment for depression only. Patients with both TBI and clinical depression may still qualify.
